Nov. 16 PDG Bill also mentioned
putting list together of potential Lions. Lion Sandy added that
a great way to introduce them was an invite to a speaker meeting.
PDG Bill would like a friendship dinner to be scheduled for
March. Lion John mentioned that Lion Doc said that the Lions Club sign at the Welcome to Acton sign needs repaired, or better yet, replaced. PDG Bill offered to help Lion John with the replacement.
White cane will happen after the first of the year. Tree decorating will happen based on the Parks schedule. Only lights will be hung on all trees. Respectively submitted Lion Sondra Tersigni Secretary Acton CA Lions Club 2011.10.19 Minutes of Business Meeting Meeting of October 19 Called to order 7:40 After a flag salute led by Lion John and an invocation by Lion Virginia, PDG Bill shared a minute of Lionism. These are all kinds of facts about Lions. There were no guests to introduce. She also mentioned the flower assembly for Friday night’s fiesta dinner. She mentioned inviting everyone to be sure that we have a good turn out. IPDG Marcia took orders and sizes for our "Lions at Work" t-shirts. During dinner Lion Virginia talked about the St. Mary's Oktoberfest. A total of eight will be going. There will be a slight discount for that many people. PDG Bill mentioned the forum in Vallejo November 4th. Lion John reported that the sierra highway location is still being checked into. After dinner, Fran Wright showed for her 3rd club visit and helped make flowers. Lion Dolly made the cake for celebration of the birth of PDG Marcia, Lion Sandy and Lion Virginia. It was served while flowers were being made. Sandy reported a man from Uganda will be speaking for the next meeting. He has seen many atrocities over in Uganda. He has a story to tell. Tina will cook for the first meeting in December. Discussion went around about getting Chris Darga. We will put it off until next year so that we can do something Christmas for the first meeting of December. Then our traditional Christmas Chinese gift exchange/ potluck. Sondra will do the food for the first meeting in January. The Student Speaker contest will be at the 2nd meeting in February Trunk or treat will have five Lion cars. The Newyears, Waylands, Steibels, Sondra Tersigni and the Weddings will display and hand out candy. Sondra wants people to send things to write; such as: Lions Virginia, Sandy, and IPDG Marcia. Birthdays of Marcia, Sandy and Virginia blew out the candles that were lit by PDG Bill. Potluck for thanksgiving will require calls from Lion Joann. John said that he'll cook the turkey. I like to do indoor swap meet on Sat Jan 29th. Sell sandwiches and hotdogs Then we may work on a cemetery reenactment for late next year. A motion was made that we collect money amongst us to replace the tree that died. It will be about $35. Gardener wants a flowery tree. We want to be there when we plant. Plus we will work on some iceberg roses. We need to look at the budget. Sondra moved Bill seconded. Motion passed. PDG Bill mentioned the two leaderships. After adjournment at 9:15 a brief board meeting was conducted. A motion was put forth by lion Sondra to donate a total of 200 over two months. The first $100 to two families for thanksgiving and the second $100 to two other families. It was seconded by PDG Bill. After discussion, the motion was rescinded by Sondra and restated to read that after the budget is viewed and if it is in the budget, the motion to donate will be brought to the next board meeting. 2011.09.14 Minutes of Board Meeting Mtg called to order 7:30
Sondra GDD on Sunday Sandy concerned about keeping aprons together. Send email to ask who know where they are. We can put an order for people who want their own apron. We need the original aprons together. Gift certificate Debbie Rocha for $25 and Joann moved, I seconded and Joann will pick it up. Marcia wants to get shirt and will silk screen Acton lions at work. We will pay the club for them. We will wear and wash ourselves. Moved by sandy, then Sondra. Motion passed. On first Saturday in November for $70 Heather Lindquist will be speaking in November about video film production. She is a Teacher at high desert and in rock band with her mom. ARTS COUNCIL - arts council at library. Contact. Marcia for I formation. Kids only artists. Thursday, Fri. Saturday. We will sponsor and give a $25 gift card to Michaels for art supplies. The dates are: Oct 6,7 8 2011.08.17 Minutes of Hawaiian Luau Meeting Meeting was called to order. The flag salute and invocation were given. Dinner was served Cake was served to celebrate birthdays Lion Marty gave the financial report. Lion Sondra mentioned that she brought in a repeat advertiser for the newsletter at $60. If we could get others to advertise that would help us pay our administrative fees. Lion Sondra read the minutes of the Aug 3 meeting. They were approved as read. President Lion Luci commented on the great attendance at the Music in the Park on Sunday Night. Thanks to IPDG Marcia and PDG Bill she was able to have a very nice dinner. Everyone concurred that it was a really good time. Lion Sandy spoke on programs. October “What’s in your wallet” starring Chris Darga, one of the characters on the Capitol One commercials. Then for November there is Heather Lunquist, daughter of former Lions Carolyn and Jim Wright. She teaches Video Production. Then for December we have a choice of a Christmas theme or “Over 90 and loving it” A woman in Palmdale who is near 90 and does a lot. Dan Horner said that he can do another reading, like he did last year. Lion Sandy also mentioned that the week before that first meeting in December, there will be the production of “The Christmas Carol.” The Aprons came in at $53 total for 12. They are navy and embroidered with ACTON LIONS in white thread. They will be in by the next breakfast. The governor visit will be serving a brisket. Decorating of the tables will be by Lion Tina, with possibly special placemats and flowers. We might
get a gift suggestion from IPDG Marcia.
Lions Luci and Sondra will set the governor’s table and Lion Sandy will
enhance the kitchen crew. Please arrive
early. Lion Sondra reported that the Teresita Pines open house will be over Labor Day weekend. President Luci will attend. A tour will at the beginning and then they feed us. Lion Sondra reported that the Carousel Ranch “Heart of the West “fundraiser is on August 27th. She and Lion John McLane have promised to work from 7 to 11 that evening. Anyone else who wants to stop by and help during the designated times are welcome to do so. All the listing of areas to help are on the form. She then explained what Carousel Ranch is, it being for children with disabilities working with horses. Sunshine Lion Sondra reported that she is temporarily taking the position back. A donation will be made to the City of Hope to honor Tana Lampton’s brother who died from cancer recently. It is a budget item. Lion Judi mentioned that the ad in the AV Press was wrong. We need to clarify that the Lions hold the breakfast and that there are participating groups who share the profits. The information needs to be sent via email. New Business- Lion Tina wants to put together small gift packs for the senior citizens. Please save up hotel samples for the gift packs. This may be done either in the fall or waiting until the spring when we would naturally do cleanup. Plan for 15 to 20 packages. Lion Tina will find out who will need our help. Lion Judi mentioned that they need to know our limitations. With no other new business, we had our drawing and finally there was a winner- Lion Sandy Lion Doc took a picture of all of those who dressed Hawaiian. There will be a board meeting on September 14th at Stallion Meadows Community Center. Meeting adjourned at 8:56 pm

ACTON LIONS CLUB BUSINESS MEETING OF AUGUST 3, 2011
MEETING CALLED TO ORDER BY PRESIDENT LUCI AT 7:30 FLAG SALUTE BY LION JOHN MCLANE INVOCATION BY LION VIRGINIA WEDDING There was one guest- Lion Ed Cohen of the Palmdale Lions Club DINNER WAS SERVED There was no treasurer’s report. The minutes of the July 23rd meeting were read by Lion Sondra. Although, PDG Bill did state that he would be happy to share some of the chairmanships, if anyone is interested. It is so noted. A motion to accept as read was made by PDG Bill Newyear and seconded by Lion Joann Wayland. Publicity- Lion Sandy will be glad to publicize anything that she works or chair. She stated that the AV Press will be happy with anything we can send them for the 2nd and 4th Sunday, covering the Acton-Agua Dulce area. AV press is running a special edition on service organizations and selling ad space for $25 per 1 column inch. Deadline Monday, but may be extended. Ads run for service organizations every weekend in the AV Press and they are free. There is no ad for our Lions Club. It was motioned by Lion Joan that we run a 2 column inch ad for $50. This was seconded by PDG Bill. Lion Joann offered to set up the advertisement. Pancake breakfast coming Sunday. Group name is Antelope Valley Volunteer Mounted Unit. A signup sheet was sent around on the last meeting. Aux. members- Lion Sandy has 2 maybe 3 already. Aprons- $16.96 through LCI according to Lion Judi. Proposal by Lion Sandy. Debbie Rocha will put Acton Lions with her embroidery machine. $5.38 in multiple colors. Blue, green, black and white. A motion to buy blue aprons and $5.38 plus Shipping and tax was made by PDG Bill for $5.38 2nd by Lion Cal. After discussion PDG Bill amended his motion to the color of royal blue and $7 with shipping and sales tax. Fun Night- A suggestion was made by Lion Virginia to do a Concert in the Park. It was decided to meet on August 14th at 6:00 at the Acton Park for a fun night. Bring your own main meal and dessert or appetizers to share. Entertainment will be provided by Kathy Lively and her band. Governor’s Visit- September 7th and helpers are needed. A Presentation to Lions Ed and Judi was made by PDG Marcia. Also mentioned, by Lion Sondra was the minutes and the newsletter is posted by Lion Doc, on the website. Jethawks ticket sales for August 4th were mentioned. 50/50 drawing was held. 2011.07.20 Minutes of Business Meeting Minutes of Business
Meeting of July 20, 2011 Meeting called to order at 7:30 by President Luci Sweron. Flag Salute and Invocation was given. There were no guests. Dinner
was served. Treasurer’s report was given by Lion
Joann Wayland. After the report
President Luci requested to be filed for audit. The Committee for budget, Event
and Meals members: Lions Sandy Madsen, Tina Steibel, Virginia Wedding and
Joann Wayland. Following is the
report: Fundraiser Events: to include
a Mexican Fiesta Dinner/ Karaoke on Oct 21. There is also a motorized vehicle event
in the spring. Also, there will be a
Easter Bunny Pancake Breakfast which will be totally Lion worked. Possibly even a mystery egg with a surprise
inside to be sold. Meetings: an immediate past
president (or any past president) to greet guests at the door and seat them
with Lions other than the ones who invited them. Also, new table setups. Auxiliary Members: Welcoming outsiders to join in the fun of
Lionism. All ages welcome from young
adults to seniors. This will be more
official then just being helpers. This
could also be a way for us to get to know them and for them to get to know us,
before inviting them to become Lions. Added activities Gemstone Clean-up
(senior trailer park on The idea of a winter time indoor swap meet was mentioned. (PDG Bill to
chair). Also mentioned was a Monopoly
tournament to be chaired by Lion Sondra and PDG Bill. Continue Scholarships,
student speaker, vision services. Library
Shelf contribution needs to be made as promised. Public Relations: Need for publicity. AV Press highlights Acton and Agua Dulce communities
in the 2nd and 4th Sunday editions. We must write local papers about all we do,
when we do it. Motion was made that
everything mentioned herein be approved but that any additions along the way
may be implemented. It was
seconded. After discussion on the date
of the fiesta, motion carried, with the date of October 21st to stay. BUDGET- CHARITY ACCOUNT Some items previously acted on, were removed from the budget but can be
looked at again at year end. BUDGET- ADMINISTRATIVE ACCOUNT Meals: 1st meeting to
be home cooked. Second meeting meal will
be brought in. Birthday cakes will be
home made unless someone wants to donate a fancy cake. Average cost to be put out by cooks is $50 and up to $65 depending on
the amount of people attending.
Reservations need to be made for outsiders coming in for special
speakers or events. A motion was made to approve
the administrative budget. It was
seconded and carried. IN OTHER NEWS: Meals are handled through October.
Governor’s Visit is set for September 7th. The August 3rd meeting is Hawaiian
in themed with Pulled pork, Cole Slaw, Rolls and Pineapple cake for
dessert. Hawaiian dancers are being sought. PDG Bill
found denim shirts for $28-$32 and Marcia found t-shirts and has idea from
another district to have our logo on the front and “LIONS AT WORK” on the back
(4 for $10 at Michaels plus cost of printing- So about $10 each.) International dues were voted to increase $2
per year over 2012 and 2013. We don’t
know about MD4 or District dues at this time, but with just the international
increase we will have only $3 per member to operate the club. MD4 Talent show is the 6th and we
will be doing the “If I weren’t an Acton Lion” skit. Jethawks tickets for August 4th at
7 p.m. at the cost of $7 with $1 beers.
Lion Joann received her Miracle Worker Award from PDG Marcia. PDG Marcia stated that we all know that she
is a real miracle worker. A birthday cake was presented to Lion Cal and the song was sang. Picture was taken. More raffle tickets were sold and after three
