December 11,2008 Executive Board Meeting Minutes of Executive Board Meeting December 11, 2008 The Board met at 7.30 pm at President Virginia Wedding’s home. Lions Renee and Michael Godinez, Bev Kirkelie, John McLane, and Frank and Joann Wayland attended. The Board approved the November 14 meeting minutes as read. Lion Bill Newyear submitted a report for the 25th Charter Party. The Board discussed membership again. The Board dropped twelve members, some of whom may reinstate, who did not pay their dues. Lion John reported that the Christmas tree sales were doing well. Lion Marcia Newyear is in charge of the Business Appreciation dinner on February 4, 2009. Lions Renee and Bev reported on the Scholarship Fundraiser on February 14. They have two nights at Harrah’s in Laughlin as a prize. The estimate to fix the shed roof was postponed. The Ben Ranieri memorial plaque is ready. The Board approved Lion Bev’s motion for the Club to keep its share of the profit for the ASMO Comedy night and breast cancer benefit. Lion Virginia reported four eye exam certificates were purchased and one was given to a needy student. Float decorating is this December 28 at 5.00 pm. There is also a reception for Lions Clubs International President Al Brandel that evening. Lion Judi Olson is chairing Students Speakers February 18. Open House date will be set later. The Board decided not to have a Casino Night this year. Lion Tina Steibel suggested a rummage sale in its place. The money raised from the sale of the Ed Wiseman vest will be given to a charity. The Board approved Lion Michael’s motion to set aside $500.00 to help with expenses for the President and the Secretary to attend District functions. The January 4 meeting will have a speaker about eye glasses for Rural Africa. The January 21 meeting will be dessert only. Volunteers are needed to go to the Valley Regional in January to put on “If I were an Acton Lion”. The Meeting adjourned at 9.30 pm November 14,2008 Executive Board Meeting Acton Lions Club Minutes of Executive Board Meeting November 14, 2008 The Acton Lions Club Executive Board meeting was held at the home of Virginia Wedding. President Virginia called the meeting to order at 7.32 pm. Lions Fred Fate, Michael and Rene Godinez, Bev Kirkelie, John McLane, Marcia and Bill Newyear, Luci Sweron, Sondra Tersigni, Frank and Joann Wayland, Scott and David Wedding also attended. Minutes of the October 9, 2008 meeting were approved as read. Lion John reported for Treasurer Cari McLane balances in the Administrative, General, and Scholarship Accounts. Lion Marcia moved to earmark the White Cane money collected November 8 for sight related expenses only and to purchase four eye exam certificates at fifty dollars each. The Board approved the motion. The Board again discussed Membership. Lion Luci volunteered to call the Members who have not paid their dues. Dues must be paid by the end of November or delinquent Members will be dropped. Lion Marcia reported the Friendship Dinner was successful and we should have three new Members. President Virginia reported Lion Fred had information for the Ben Ranieri memorial plaque and she will place an order for it. The Lions provided the bar for ASMO Comedy Night and for the Breast Cancer Benefit but we do not know our profit from the two functions. Lions Luci and Scott will work the bar for ASMO Bingo on November 16. The Lions will provide a bar for the Women’s Club fundraiser December 6. Lion Bill reported on the 25th Charter Party to be held December 7. Flyers have been sent to all clubs and Lion Bill will send flyers to the PDGs. The cost is forty dollars per person. Lion Bill is still working on the caterer. The Hi Notes will sing. The Acton Lions will tend the bar. Lion Fred reported that the following will attend: Patty Williams, John Joyce, and Dick Davis. Lion Marcia is making a Christmas ornament with a Lion in it for each person attending the Charter Party. Lion John moved to auction off at the Charter Party the Lions vest with pins donated by the family of Lion Ed Wiseman. The Board approved the motion. Lions Marcia, Bill, Luci, Scott, and Virginia will attend the Zone A meeting November 16 from 10.00 to 11.30 am. The Thanksgiving Potluck November 19 will also be Crazy Hair Day. There will be a photographer from the Lions Magazine at the meeting. Christmas tree sales will be December 6-7,13-14, and 20-21. Float decorating will be December 28 from 5.00 to 11.00 pm. Business appreciation dinner is February 4, 2009. Student Speakers is February 18. Lion John will talk to Linda Hitsman about the banner on the corner of Smith and Plaques for Lion and Citizen of the Year have been ordered. An Lion Bill moved that the Board write a letter of nomination to nominate Lion Marcia for Vice District Governor for the year 2009-2010. The Board approved the motion. Attendees saw a video of “If I were an Acton Lion” at the end of the meeting. The Club will present it at the Valley Regional Meeting in January. Meeting adjourned at 9.00 pm Submitted by Lion Joann Wayland, Secretary August 20, 2008 Regular Meeting The meeting of the Acton Lions Club was called to order by President Virginia Wedding at 7.40 pm. The flag salute and invocation were given. The meeting was adjourned for a fiesta dinner. A cake was presented in honor of August birthdays and the Waylands anniversary. The minutes of the August 13 Board meeting were approved as read. Treasurer Cari McLane reported balances in the administrative, general, and scholarship accounts. Dues are due and letters have been sent out. The August pancake breakfast report was not available. Citing a lack of available funds, Lion Cari moved not to make a donation to Campaign Sight First II this year. Lion Sondra Tersigni seconded the motion. Motion carried. Lion Bill Newyear moved to donate $200 to Teresita Pines. Lion Scott Wedding seconded the motion. Motion carried. Lion Cari discussed the Christmas Tree Lot. The profit on trees for 2007 was $2151.00. It was decided to hold the tree lot at the McLanes and pre-orders will be taken. Cari sent in a deposit on the trees. The District Governor's visit will be September 3. Lions Sandy Matsen and Joann Wayland will be cooking. Lions Tina Steib, Cari, and Bev Kirklie will decorate. The Business Appreciation Dinner will be September 17. Lions Bev and Bill are in charge of food. Volunteers for the bar at the Carousel Ranch Fundraiser will be Lions Evanka, Sondra, and John McLane. Lion Virginia will take care of the Ben Ranieri memorial plaque. Lions Kent Matsen and Bill will tend bar at the ASMO bingo on November 16. Lion Michael Godinez will take care of the bar at the Breast Cancer Benefit on Sunday, October 19. Pancake Breakfast is September 7. Highway Clean-up is September 14. Lion Sondra discussed advertising in the newsletter. She will have a sample at the next meeting. Lion Doc Ellis reported that the Club website is up and running. Kathy Howell's shed still needs cleaning out. Lion Bill will be choosing a "secret greeter". Lion Sondra will backup Lion Bill selling raffle tickets at the meeting. The following will attend Open House at Teresita Pines on September 6: Lions Scott, Evanka, Renee Godinez, Bev, Luci Sweron, and Sondra. This will be Lion Virginia's last meeting until after the first of the year. 1st Vice-President Luci will be conducting the meetings. Meeting adjourned at 9.00 pm. September 3, 2008 Regular Meeting The meeting of the Acton Lions Club was called to order by 1st Vice-President Luci Sweron. The flag salute and invocation were given. Since it was the District Governor's visit, no business was conducted. A lovely dinner was served under the direction of Lion Sandy Matsen. Pam Wolter assisted her. Four students from a Vasquez High School Service Club served the dinners. Guests were introduced by Lion Luci: Zone A Chairman John Minneci, Vice-District Governor Dave Hebebrand, and District Governor Ron Burdick. Governor Ron gave a very inspirational speech.
