First and Third Wednesdays Meeting We usually meet at the Acton Community Clubhouse on the first and third Wednesdays of the month at 7.30 pm. Come to our next meeting and find out more..... White Cane Day
On Saturday, November 8th, members of the Acton Lions Club will be observing White Cane Day in the communities of Acton and Agua Dulce. The International Association of Lions Clubs, in keeping with their primary mission of being "Knights of the Blind", in 1931 formally adopted as a humanitarian project the promotion of the practice, intiated in England in 1921, of using a white cane to indicate that the user was either visually impaired or blind As "Knights", each Lion participates to some extent in local, state, national, and international projects that will improve or enhance the lives of people of all ages who are afflicted with various degrees of visual impairment. On White Cane Day, Acton Lions will be stationed at many public places in both communities to collect donations that will help fund programs focused on sight retention, vision improvement, and the research and development of new protocols for preventable blindness. Every donation, regardless of the amount, will help to make a difference in the lives of the visually impaired. As Helen Keller challenged the Lions of the world: "Will you not help me hasten the day when there shall be no preventable blindness; no little deaf, blind child untaught; no blind man or woman unaided? I appeal to you Lions, you who have your sight, your hearing, you who are strong and brave and kind. Will you not constitute yourselves Knights of the Blind in this crusade against darkness?", so the Acton Lions challenge you. When you see a Lion standing outside of one of your favorite local businesses on Saturday, November 8, remember that your donation may mean the difference between darkness and light for someone who needs treatment to prevent blindness, who needs adaptive equipment, or who needs medical intervention to maintain quality of life despite their visual handicap. This project cannot succeed without your help. Please call me at my cel 860.202.0257, to volunteer, to donate, or to find out more. You can also leave a note, with your contact information, for me on the guestbook.
Simplify Your Christmas Tree Shopping
For five years, we, the Acton Lions Club, had a Christmas Tree Lot, one of our major fundraisers. Last year, we decided to simplify our lives around the holidays, and in turn, make your life easier. We still have a Christmas Tree Lot; but you preorder your tree. You choose what size and what type of tree you want, you put a deposit down, and come Christmas time, you can pick up your tree. Some reservations were expressed because part of the fun of getting a Christmas tree is picking out the perfect tree. You can still do that. Last year, we sold over 100 trees, and everyone got to pick their perfect trees within the categories they had chosen. Everyone that participated last year loved the idea. Most of them had bought our trees before and knew that these trees are the highest quality. They do not dry out, and they continue to look beautiful throughout the holidays. This is still a major fundraiser for the Acton Lions Club. So please order your tree from us by October 10, and tell your friends about us. Should you have any questions, please call Cari at 661.965.4569. Click here to download the order form.

For the Scholarship Fundraiser this year, we will be doing another Murder Mystery show. This year the play is "Pirates of the Channel Islands" at Chimbole Center in Palmdale on Saturday, February 14, 2009. So, who killed Captain Jack Peacock? A jealous lover? An ambitious shipmate? Someone after his booty? Speaking of which, what's become of Jack's booty? And how many times will we use the word "booty" to try to get a cheap laugh? Join the crew of the Calloping Grampus for rollicking pirate adventure, booty, and murder on the high seas where dressing and talking like a pirate is highly encouraged!
First Sunday Mornings, March through October Pancake Breakfast We raise funds by preparing pancake breakfasts to order at the Acton Community Club from 8.00 to 11.00. The orders are delivered by members of youth groups who partner with us in rotation. We also sell sunglasses... A body could come in to eat and leave looking more stylish than before.
